The dogs thwarted a White House intruder Wednesday night after a man jumped the fence and sprinted across the North Lawn.
The dogs were treated for minor bruises after they were kicked and punched by the fence-jumper, Dominic Adesanya, 23, of Bel Air, Md. Adesanya is currently in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service and has been charged with felony assault on a police officer for hurting the dogs.
The Secret Service shared pictures Thursday of Hurricane and Jordan and said they were both "ready to work."
Dogs have been used in the Secret Service since 1975, specifically Belgian Malinois, the breed of Hurricane and Jordan, the agency says. The dogs are gentle enough to be around children, but they are known for chasing people down. They take off like bullets to subdue suspects, can run up to 30 miles an hour and have a 270-degree field of vision. That's why many Malinois are used in the military, and one dog was even on the team to take down Osama Bin Laden.
Secret Service dogs, in particular, must complete 20 weeks of training with handlers before they can report for duty. On average, the dogs work until about age 10.
On Twitter, the Secret Service said Jordan, 5, a black and tan Belgian Malinois, enjoys walks around the White House. Hurricane, 6, a black Belgian Malinois, likes playing with his Kong toy.
This latest White House intrusion is the second one to occur in a month, but the first one that involved the dogs. In the last breach, the dogs weren't used, and the fence-jumper got as far as the East Room before he was tackled.
