Dallas nurse Nina Pham may have met with President Obama and CDC Director Tom Frieden since recovering from Ebola, but perhaps the most touching meeting happened Saturday, when she reunited with her dog, Bentley.
Pham and her 1-year-old King Charles Spaniel had a heart-wrenching, tail-wagging meeting at a decommissioned naval air station in Dallas.
"I'd like to take a moment to thank people from all around the world who have sent their best wishes and prayers to me and Mr. Bentley," Pham said at the news conference Saturday.
Bentley had been quarantined for 21 days and tested negative for Ebola.
But the two hadn't seen each other since at least Oct. 12, when Pham tested positive for the disease after treating Thomas Eric Duncan, who had died four days earlier. She was flown to Maryland, where she recovered at the National Institutes of Health and was released Oct. 24.
While quarantined, Bentley was cared for in the former residence of the executive officer at the Dallas-owned Hensley Field.
His fate had been unsure at first. In Spain, authorities euthanized a dog, Excalibur, belonging to a nursing assistant with Ebola. But Dallas officials quickly decided not to do the same with Bentley and to quarantine him instead.
